Agarose particles—porous hydrogel microspheres derived from red algae—have become indispensable tools in bioseparation and biomedical research. Their exceptional biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, and tunable porosity make them ideal supports for affinity, ion exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography. However, standard off-the-shelf particles cannot always meet the demands of specialized workflows—whether it's optimizing particle size for resolution versus flow rate, adjusting pore architecture for specific molecular targets, or introducing custom ligands for unique capture needs. This is where custom agarose particles come into play.
The Versatility of Agarose Particles for Biomolecule Purification
Agarose particles are porous gel microspheres that separate mixed biomolecules based on their molecular sizes. They are easily activated and compatible with both batch incubation and column purification workflows for proteins and antibodies. The abundant internal porous structure enables efficient purification of large biomolecules such as monoclonal antibodies.
After being coupled with functional groups, proteins or antibodies on the surface, agarose particles can capture target substances via centrifugation or magnetic separation. They can be applied as affinity chromatography resins, ion exchange chromatography resins, size-exclusion chromatography resins, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography resins.
